Quiet New Year's

The Flaherty family will be having a quiet New Year's Eve/Day. Actually, my whole vacation has been rather quiet as I don't think Kevin wanted to do a lot of running around. Tonight, Kevin and I are going the 5pm mass for the holy day (Feast of Mary, Mother of God) and we're then headed to the house of our friends Dave and Rebecca (and their daughter Julia) here in Dracut. We hadn't planned on doing anything tonight but Rebecca called a little while ago to invite us over. We're not going to stay all night, just until it's time for the kids to go to bed.

Tomorrow or Saturday we are going to make our annual trip to the LaSallette Shrine in Attleboro. Lynn and I have been going there every year, since we've been married (or almost every year) to see their Christmas light display, it's one of our traditions.

Other than that, I am going to be on the radio Saturday morning (980 AM WCAP) at 7am to discuss Dracut politics, watch some sports, and start doing work again the rest of the weekend. I have a ton of papers to correct and classes to prep. The good news is that mid-terms are the week after we get back so the next week or so will be a lot of presentations, tests, and house keeping stuff.

I am also going to try and finish a book I got for Christmas - David McCullough's "The Path Between the Seas." The book is about the creation of the Panama Canal, a topic I admittedly don't know a lot about. Thus, I am flying through the 600 page book (half way there) as I love reading books on topics I know little about. After this I am going to read "Theodore Rex" by Edmund Morris. This is part 2 of a biography on Teddy Roosevelt. Part 1 is "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" which I read last year. Part 1 is about Roosevelt's life up until he becomes president in 1901, part 2 is about his presidency, and I think Morris is writing a part 3 on his post-presidential life.

Speaking of books, I added a new feature to the old blog on the right hand side called Library Thing. It's a way for people to catalog their books, learn about new books, get recommendations for other books, etc. It's pretty neat, see their website here.

Looks like this weekend won't be all that quiet after all!

Happy New Year everyone.
